Baptism, as commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20, is a fundamental ordinance of the Church that signifies a believer’s identification with the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience, a public declaration of faith, and a symbol of spiritual rebirth, representing the believer’s participation in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Baptism marks the initiation of a new life in Christ and entry into the Christian community, while also being part of the ongoing process of discipleship. As the Great Commission emphasizes, baptism must be followed by teaching believers to observe all of Christ’s commands, ensuring that the journey of faith continues beyond the act itself. Thus, baptism is not only an essential step in the Christian faith but also a key part of the Church’s mission to make and nurture disciples until Christ’s return. SHALOM!!!
